Infrared keyboards are cool, typing on them feels like you’re a hacker from the 90’s version of the future. Infrared keyboards that are beamed from R2-D2, like Princess Leia giving us a dire message are even cooler.
This particular R2 unit uses Bluetooth 3.0 to connect to your device. Tablet, phone, whatever, and just like the real R2-D2, he’s ready to get to work, up to a distance of 32 feet that is. Why you would ever need that amount of distance, I don’t know but you have the option. The keyboard is a standard QWERTY and only works on flat surfaces.
But as an added geek bonus, when you tap the keys, it makes the R2-D2 noise! And there’s no 3-CPO to tell you to watch your manners. It’s perfect. At least until it gets annoying. Which I’m sure is never. This is coming out of Japan and preorders opened last month. The item doesn’t ship out until the end of August and the price is a bit high for an infrared keyboard, at $330 (33,480 yen) but honestly, can you really put a price on pure happiness?
