The world’s oceans can use a bit of help but they’re huge so people can’t watch it all the time. To combat this problem, the RangerBot is our eyes on the seas. The autonomous little guy keeps tabs on the oceans so we can get a handle on how best to help it.
We depend on the ocean for a lot of things and even if you never visit because sand sucks, we all benefit from a healthy ocean. The RangerBot is a little robot that combs the ocean gathering data and taking care of minor issues.
It can control certain water-based pests but more than that, it can keep an eye on water quality and reef health. These are things that humans could do, of course, but where this bot shines is its ability to map parts of the undersea world that we’re not able to get to. When it comes to the ocean, robots can be a huge help in learning more about them. They can work longer and under more hostile conditions than a scuba diver would. This project is still in its infancy but they’re raising funds to help bring the RangerBot to more oceans.
