Re-Cycled House – LEGO homes for the homeless

recycle-home-finished

We’ve talked about using recycled plastic before in building processes but that was for things like insulation. The Re-Cycled House project is one that aims to make livable homes out of usually unusable waste material.

This process turns plastic waste into bricks which are then snapped together to build homes. These plastic shelters are simple to build can be constructed quickly making them perfect for easing shelter concerns for those that live in poverty as well as people affected by disasters.

These structures do not have to be homes, however, they can also be used for classrooms, pop-up clinics, communal workshop space, or any other number of things. This particular innovation turns something that would have been 100% waste into a product that people can actively use from all walks of life. The aim is to help people in poverty or emergency situations, but this can easily be used to create outside storage or temporary office space in some climates. Check out the video for more info.
