Reduce Mattress Waste – too many old beds are ending up in landfills

Mattresses don’t last forever and even if a mattress is in good repair, almost no one wants a used mattress. In fact, most people will tell you to absolutely not buy a used mattress for any reason whatsoever. So they end up in the dump and Zero Waste Scotland wants that to change.

The target goal for the industry is to reduce the amount of mattresses that end up in the landfill by 75% by 2028. This can be accomplished in a number of ways. Either by making mattresses that last longer so that consumers aren’t replacing them so often and by encouraging them to be recycled.

Since there’s not a large second hand market for these products and they are very hard to recycle, making sure that people aren’t just tossing them is key. Mattresses won’t last you forever but one thing you can do is purchase a good quality one as it will last a bit longer.
