Relax!

Been working too long at your PC? Worried about strain or RSI? Check out these three programs designed to avoid problems.

* EyeCare Reminder is a free prog which reminds you to get up from the screen every so often and stretch etc. It does not, unfortunately, advise you to get a life.

* The $19.95 ErgoTimer goes one step further by letting you set up a specific number of mouse clicks, keystrokes and time elapsed before a pop up box prompts you for a break. The box also suggests a series of exercises for you to do to maximise the break time. And no, getting another cup of coffee is not included.

* Linux users may want to check out Geek Alarm (there’s also a Windows version) which also costs $19.95. This little proggie is the Rotweiller of break programs since it features an optional lock down mode which locks your PC during the break, thereby forcing you to stop what you’re doing and get away from the desk. Mean, huh? Well that’s because sometimes you just have to be cruel to be kind (and anyway you can always switch it off.) :-)
