Revell QuadCam QuadCopter – small, light flyer complete with camera [Review]

Quadcopters are all the rage at the moment, and for good reason. They’re fun, and when combined with an on-board camera they make for great toys and professional hobby gear. We’ve looked at the high end spec stuff, but now we thought we would take a look at the cheaper end of the market.

The Revell QuadCam QuadCopter is a small, lightweight craft which comes with an on-board camera, and the typical kind of package you would expect to find in this budget end of the market. To be honest there’s nothing particularly amazing about the quad, but it works pretty well.

The camera is located under the flimsy plastic shell fuselage, and a nice touch is it can swivel up and down, so at least you can aim it at a horizon or at the ground, which is handy. The video is stored on microSD cards, and the craft comes with a 2GB card in the box, which is nice.

Conclusion
As you can see from our video above, the quad flies pretty well, although when used outside in anything but absolutely still air, you’re going to find that all these ultra budget quadcopters with their small batteries will literally only give you a few minutes of flight time, which is a bit frustrating. You definitely need a 2nd or 3rd battery to get the proper fun outside, although indoors you should be able to get close to the 6 – 7 minutes claimed time.

The controller is good enough for the job, and when you fly inside it’s more than capable of controlling the quad. Outside, however, once again we found the quadcopter pretty tricky to handle from a distance of more than a few feet, which made it a little frustrating. All in all, it’s a fairly decent toy, and as you can see the video quality is actually not bad.

Price: $107 / £67
