The bees are in trouble and it’s for the good of everyone that they be saved but how to do so is really something that people have been struggling with. One beekeeper has a radical idea. Let them live in more natural habitats, a process called “rewilding”.
The beekeeper, Micheal Thiele, has a new concept, let the bees live in nature, sort of. He converts logs into be homes to encourage them to form colonies there. So far, he’s had really strong results. He works to make his logs look as natural as possible by putting them on top of stumps or even in rafters.
These hives are not for harvesting however. The bees that live there will be able to live in peace, pollinating and what not. Thiele will only take the honey if the colony dies off. Even though the success of this is just anecdotal, it’s an intriguing process.
