Ringly – smart ring moves tech bling to your fat fing-er

You know that stuff called ‘wearables’, that everyone was shouting about last year? Well the idea hasn’t gone away. In fact it seems to be getting worse. The geeks are now trying to stick this kind of on-body tech into just about every bit of our lives. Like this Ringly device for instance, which is being marketed as a ‘smart ring’. Oh yes.

Not to be confused with the Neyya Smart Ring (above), this Ringly thingly features a couple of real live gemstone options, set into an 18k gold-plated brass mount. Which makes it probably more valuable than a meerkat’s toothpick. Like other wearables, it basically connects to the nearest Bluetooth smartphone, iOS or Android, to deliver notifications when calls or messages arrive. Through a subtle ‘vibration and light’.

We’re not sure why you can’t just grab your phone out of your pocket, which you’ll have to do anyway if you want to see what’s going on. But hey, we’re not marketing geniuses (genii?). The battery is supposed to last 24 hours – depending on usage – and we’re betting you’ll spend more time fretting about finding a nearby charger than actually worrying about calls from your parole officer. Or whatever. You’ll need a generous dollop of cash for this puppy, $195 in fact.
