Riya, the free photo service which lets you search through – and tag – your images face by face. Not hosting, note, just search and tag. Erm…if this works (and I’ll give it a go and report back later) this is potentially the single most awesome service to mankind since the invention of the wet wipe.
As the site says – ‘We started this company after realizing that we had 1000’s of digital photos on our computer all labeled DSC0009.jpg, that our friends just never remembered to send us the photos we wanted from them, and that searching for images on the web just doesn’t work very well.’
Abso-piggin’-lutely dudes. At last, a real Web 2.0 application worthy of the name.
oooh, I want this. What if you loaded up a pic of yourself and coupled this with Plaxo? You could take a picture of a room and ask "who's this?"………..
Whoa, that’s kinda scary, Rob. :-)
Wait till you see , they have a rather amazing showcase of face recognition, where you can upload a photo and find out which celebrity you resemble the most. That’s just an example of what these guys are cooking…
Ha ha ha ha
I just looked at MyHeritage and tried their celeb face recognition thing – or to put it another way – a random celeb face generator!! It’s hopeless!!!!!
Ron, if you upload a photo with celebs, it recognizes them, usually. You can see some examples here: http://tarunmatta.blogspot.com/2005/11/myheritage-face-recognition.html.
If you upload a photo with ordinary people, it tries to find the closest looking celebs for each person. Often the results are good. But some people have faces that just don’t resemble any celebrity (especially kids — ‘cos there aren’t that many celebrity kids), so it may look like a random generator to you. My suggestion to you: get famous! It’s probably the only way any photo of you will be recognized as a celebrity.
