Robot Quadruped – crab crawler doubles up as night intruder alert

Robotquadraped

The Robotic Quadruped is an autonomous crab like device that scuttles around using its sensors to detect stuff. Like table legs. It also sports a set of low light LEDs and a sound sensor to help locate movement in murky conditions. Gotta say, the thought of having this thing click-clacking around the kitchen at 2am in the morning is kind of unnerving, but if it stops those Mysterious Midnight Fridge Raids, then bring it on. $89.95.

The robot can operate autonomously, using integrated sensors to scan for and react to moving objects and to determine in which direction and how quickly it moves, and the robot’s levels of awareness, aggression, and activity can be set to low, medium, or high, allowing manipulation of its scanning activity, interactive capabilities, and “personality.” The robotic quadruped moves forwards and backwards and each of the four legs swivel 360, enabling it to scuttle sideways like a crab, while the head pans and tilts, resulting in an optimal field of view for scanning its surroundings.

  • Looks like fun but I'm guessing that sticking it in a room with an alarm's PIR detector could lead to annoyances.
