Robot Turtles – teach your kids to code before they learn to read with this game

thinkfunrobotturtles

Coding is understandably a huge thing these days. There are a ton of websites and programs out there to teach people to write computer programs. For free. The coders of the world are a giving bunch. The big push is to get kids into it. But what do you do when you don’t want them touching your computer? Get them Robot Turtles, the first board game that teaches kids programing.

So anyone who has ever coded anything of substance knows that it’s sort of this puzzle that you’re solving. For people who have never done it (like children) a screen full of random commands and brackets is probably a bit intimidating. This game brings the basics down to a simple level for children to understand while giving them physical pieces to move around.

Although this game is marketed to children, let’s be honest, this is probably a good starting point for anyone learning how to program. Sure adult minds will probably fare better at the screen than a five year old (or will you? Because kids today are pretty computer literate) but everyone can benefit from something to hold on to. Although to be honest, the whole thing just makes me nostalgic for Logo. Robot Turtles starts at $25.

[Editor’s note: we have to say we find it hilariously ironic that a product aiming at teaching programming should be hosted on one of the most pathetically slow websites ever made. There’s a lesson in there somewhere].
