Roxer web site creator – fast, simple and very cool web design tool

Roxer is cool. Very cool. Yes it’s just a web site creator, but my how far we’ve come since the drudgy days of Geocities peeps. The whole thing takes minimalism to a new dimension. Want to edit your page? Click the padlock bottom left, and drag and drop your elements around the page instantly. No mess, no fuss. Text, menu items, images, makes no difference.

The control panel for all this editing loveliness is a tiny bar, again bottom left of the screen. Neat and unobtrusive and yet with enough features to make editing intuitive and fast. There’s a range of starter templates to work with, and even a wizard to help complete newbies create something beautiful out of very little.

The trade off is speed. The finished pages take a while to load, but I’m not really sure whether that’s a function of the code, or because it’s running on a lean mean startup web host machine. It’s something that won’t bother total beginners, but if you’re a little fussy it may get on your nerves.

That said, this is a great product and deserves lots of attention. It’s currently very early days for this hosted application, and the developers obviously have plans with a capital P, but for now it’s a great place to send your granny when she calls to ask you to run up a quick web site for her knitting club. Excellent!

Roxer takes a new approach to making web pages, based on the idea that you should never have to bother with code. With Roxer anyone can make visually stunning and fully functional web pages online using only a web browser. Editing is even easier. To rearrange your content, just click and drag items where you want them. To change your text, just click and type. To move content from one page to another, just copy and paste. Best of all, you will be doing these things to your web page from your web page. It’s that easy!
