These Runabout Electric Tricycles look like a lot of fun. Especially since they can be converted to electric snow-ski mobiles for the winter. They’re not cheap at a starting price of $4500.00, but they’re hand made, have got a range of 40 miles and judging by the video, look like a blast to ride. [via TransportTrends]
Each RunAbout Cycle frame is hand made, precision cut and TIG welded aircraft grade 4130 cromoly tubing. It takes a skilled worker more than a day to produce a single frame, which is then industrially powder coated. Each tricycle is carefully assembled from nearly 100 custom made parts and over 200 other standard components by workers who have decades of experience in the bicycle and automotive industries, requiring a week to complete a single tricycle.
Pretty pricy for a cromoly framed recumbent trike…
Compare it with one of the Catrike models (www.catrike.com)… just add a BionX kit, and I think it would still be cheaper than the Runabout.
The HP Velotechnik Scorpion (www.hpvelotechnik.com) is also very competitive, and has rear suspension. There’s even a folding option for easier transportation by car.
Optima (www.optima-cycles.nl) makes a full suspension trike as well.
