SafeHarness – a portable seat belt that could help save lives

SafeHarness system

Seat belts have become a mandatory piece of equipment in every vehicle, though this wasn’t always the case. In the large majority of buses, however, these safety devices are making a slow crawl towards being accepted.

The SafeHarness, a portable patented saety harness created by a retired firefighter and an auto recycling business owner, will go a long way towards bringing safety to bus riders. This lap belt system slides onto the back of the bus seat from the top down, then cinches at the bottom. A loop of webbing secures the belt to the seat, while the belt itself loops around the passenger’s waist.

Having been subjected to numerous tests, this safety device reportedly meets Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Having multiple SafeHarneses available could mean saving lives, especially school-age kids who ride older schoolbuses.

SafeHarness is currently part of a crowdsourcing campaign on Indiegogo. With only a few days left to raise substantial funding, it seems like a worthy investment to jump on.
