Say No To Skyscrapers – glass buildings are not great in a climate crisis

Sparkling, glass skyscrapers are a really common feature on most city skylines these days but did you realize that they function like giant greenhouses that trap heat? Probably not because of air conditioning but in the time of climate crisis, we should rethink this common design choice.

Glass buildings let in a lot of natural light which is so nice! But with that light comes heat and although in the winter that can be a great thing, it’s not awesome in the summer time. We try to balance that out with air conditioning, which does work, but it’s also very energy heavy.

By building with other materials, less glass and with a mind towards sustainability, we can help cut down on the need for air con and the drain on electricity. There are other alternatives to traditional glass but they have drawbacks as well. So maybe it’s just time to move away from the wide glass walls all together.
