Scubacraft SC3 – Zoom zoom dive

Every day the line between real life and James Bond blurs just that little bit more and the Scubacraft definitely helps. The Scubacraft SC3 is a three-person, triple-hulled, high speed water craft that zips along the surface at 80kph (50mph) via its 120kW (160hp) water jet, 4-stroke engine. When you get to the dive spot, strap on your scuba gear, pull the plug and the Scubacraft will dive to a maximum depth of 30 metres (100′). Underwater it’s propelled via 4 electric thrusters that will drive you around at 3 knots for 90 minutes.

Sure it’s fast and it’s fun, but scuba diving isn’t a walk in the park so if you’re going to go underwater on this thing you still need know how to dive. It doesn’t say if the craft can stay in position underwater while you head off to explore so someone probably has to stay with it.

When you’re done, pop back to the surface, head home and drag it up onto the optional trailer for the drive home. Price is available on application and it doesn’t say anything about the cool yellow Stig helmet, though it does match nicely with the craft. Also comes in a supercharged six person version, the Scubacraft SC6, for dive shop entrepreneurs and extreme rev heads.

Scubacraft uses patented technology that allows it to transform its buoyancy from a floating craft into a streamlined submersible. The craft is powered on the surface by a combustion engine where its unique hull design allows for exceptional performance. Before submerging the occupants must fit standard scuba diving equipment; when underwater the craft is powered by electric thrusters and batteries.
