Sharefest – send and share any size file in an instant with your browser, no sign up

Despite all the advances in modern technology it’s still too hard to send files from one place to another, especially if they’re larger than average. You either have to set up an account somewhere like Dropbox, or sign up for services such as Mega, which add hassle to what should be a simple process.

Sharefest is a service which lets you send and share files in an instant using your web browser. There’s no sign up needed, no passwords, just drag and drop and share. The service works by creating an instant disposable URL for the file, which you then give to the intended recipient.

The key thing is the file transfer is done using P2P technology, just like BitTorrent, so the more popular the file is, the faster it should transfer. It’s actually pretty clever tech, using WebRTC which is an HTML5 standard, which means you can transfer huge files to lots of people without having to worry about centralized cloud storage or any of that malarky. Check out the FAQ for more info.

The other cool thing is the file transfer is shared between peers, so everyone gets to help seed it once they download the file and keep their browser tab open. Very cool. It currently works in Chrome and Firefox, and in our tests it worked well and was fast. There’s also a Sharefest for Websites which apparently aims to help website owners share files from their site using P2P as well. Neat.
