Silent Circle is bringing global encrypted communications to a screen near you very soon

Q: What happens when you lock Phil Zimmermann (the creator of the PGP encryption standard), a couple of ex Navy SEAL specialists and a renowned cryptographer in a room for a while? A: You get a new global encrypted communications service designed to keep our stuff private, no matter what.

Silent Circle is an upcoming system which will deliver encrypted email, mobile phone calls, Internet calling and instant messaging in one package. The developers are targeting the system at those who need privacy most, human rights groups, dissidents, and NGOs and they’re promising there’ll be no backdoors at all. Which is bold.

The system is due to launch in private beta in July, and you can add your name to the list now if you’re interested. This could be very interesting indeed, especially in light of recent attacks on privacy around the world.
