According to this ExtremeTech article, chip maker Texas Instruments hope to have integrated a complete mobile phone onto a single chip within 2 years. I suppose that this could lead to all sorts of funky devices incorporating cellular connectivity, including domestic appliances.

Of course for most people, the most exciting advance would be even smaller Dick Tracy communicator watches!
