Skataz electric skates

Do you ever get the feeling that manual labor is slowly getting phased out? Just look at our modes of transportation. We’ve got electric bikes, electric skateboards and even Segway’s to eliminate walking. What’s next, electric skates? Actually, that looks to be the case.

These new electric skates, dubbed Skataz use a 350 watt motor to move you about. The motor is only attached to one skate, since that’s really all you need to propel yourself forward. Also, you don’t need to take off your shoes to wear them, which is nice for those times when you need to take off your skates. The bad part is that this does make them a bit bulkier than your average skate. The control mechanism is wired to the motor (not shown in the picture above), which just seems dangerous. Wires and wheels just don’t mix all too well. The Skataz aren’t in production yet, and I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if they never made it there.

  • They need to hire a designer – those are ugly!

    • They don't look that bad, except for that grey lump, which I assume is prototype issues. What would worry me though, is braking in a hurry. Especially since these things seem quite speed!

  • Aw Shucks I'm not complaing too much because your pieces are very good.
But there are so many AVAILABLE new things to find and report on that some readers might tune on you.
Personally I no longer vist a number of new gadget sites which waste my time with things like "no idea of availability or price"
    keep up the good work

    • Point taken Bruce, although in this case I do think we were justified because there's a very viable working prototype and…gasp…a video. Which means it does have a chance of being made perhaps?
