Smaxtec – the cow implant

smaxtec

I’m not a farmer so I just assumed that cows sort of handled their lives themselves, showing up when it was time to get milked and hanging out chewing cud at all other times. Turns out I way underestimated how much work cows are but technology didn’t. Smaxtec is an implant that gives farmers updates on their cows.

This implant is mostly concerned with letting vets know that cows are in heat or if there are any signs of illness in an animal. Since herds can be massive, it’s easy to miss the signs that tell you that an animal is sick or fertile simple because you don’t see the animal. This implant would send an email to the vet or heard manager so the cow can receive quick care.

I’m not that into cows, but how amazing would a health implant like this for our house pets be? No more worrying over whether or not our furry friends are ill and need a vet or just need a nap and some gentle foods. Count me in if this innovation ever comes to the private market.
