Smog Harms Solar Power – high air pollution means low return on solar

Smog causes a litany of health problems. From breathing issues to just straight up death. The very serious issues that air pollution causes have been well documented and China is hit especially hard by them. It’s not just human health that it causes problems for though, smog also lessens the effectiveness of solar power.

That makes sense, after all, how effective would getting power from the sun be when there’s a layer of greasy, gross air between the light and the panels? The answer goes back to cleaning up the air as well as increasing reliance on sustainable energy. Simply switching to solar, although it would help to clean up the air, wouldn’t be enough to meet the demand as the source is still blocked.

In order to get the most out of our solar energy options, it’s best to start cutting back on processes that cause emissions. This means from all sources. Energy, factory, etc. By approaching the issue on both fronts, reliance on solar power will become more accessible, faster which is really a bonus to not having to breathe in toxic air.
