Solar Powered Laptop Bag – surprise, an eco computer bag that doesn’t look totally erk…

Wow, a Solar Powered Laptop Bag that doesn’t look like it came out of the Hermann Munster Lab of Socially Inept Devices. OK, so it’s still not going to win any major design prizes, but from small steps are great things wrought (copyright Arnold Swarzenegger). $598.00 (ouch!).

Using high-efficiency solar cells, this bag charges a laptop, cell phone, and most other handheld electronics. The solar panel generates enough power to fully charge a typical laptop from a day of direct sunlight. It includes a battery pack, which stores the charge and automatically converts it to the required output voltages. Common adaptors are included, and other devices can connect via USB or a car charger. Holds up to a 17″ laptop inside a protective case.

  • Call me cynical, but the problem I see with these kinds of things is, where do you put the thing you’re charging while it’s being charged?

If you were to leave a notebook PC in the Australian sun for an hour while it charged, the screen would end up looking like a kaleidoscope and the keyboard would be melted all over the RAM. I don’t think putting it the bag wouldn’t protect it either as it’s black and would get just as hot.

I love these eco gadgets and all, but I’m just saying …
