Sony DVP-CX995V Disc Changer – more discs, less demand?

SonyDVP-CX995Vdiskchanger

Sony DVP-CX995V Disc Changer. The first time we looked at one of these Sony disc changers was in 2002, when it held 301 discs and cost $500.00. It now holds 400 titles and costs $399.95. What do you think? Is this a technology going nowhere, what with the rise and rise of file based multimedia? Answers on an iPod box to…

  • I remember a few years back (’99, I think it was) when my friend was assigned the task of programing a huge playlist into one of those machines. It was so tramatizing that he would have an left eye twich whenever he saw the shiny discs…

As nice and convenient these disc changers may be, the modern file format system does absolve them to a large degree. I guess it could be argued that sound quality is at stake here, but for that I counter, why not make a 400 LP changer with a vacuum tube amp, instead?

Oh wait, I think that was the jukebox of yesteryear…

  • For your own sanity, avoid this.
I own one, got it for Xmas ’06. It is a GREAT concept… Except for the fact you have to enter in the information via the remote… or plug in a PS/2 Keyboard and deal with a VERY kludged interface to enter data into.

Also, to add insult to injury, it seems every time I turn it on (once a week?) it seems to “Forget” what a disc is…claim it is unreadable, so I have to eject that disc and put it back in (Don’t even need to touch the disc) and then re-enter the data.

Love the concept, Despise the implementation.
