Remember watches? Those cute, crazy things we wore on our wrist to tell the time? Yeah, fun weren’t they? Of course nowadays who needs them? We’ve got cell phones, tablets, laptops and a host of other ways to keep ourselves up to speed with the periods of the day. In fact the only ones wearing watches are nurses and rich people with vulgar taste and too much cash.
So step up the new wave of wrist worn technology, in the shape of the Sony SmartWatch. This updated, digital representation of the olden timepiece, is so cool it can’t even work unless it’s tethered with a Bluetooth connection to your mobile phone. But once done, it offers a bunch of stuff your old Rolex couldn’t hope to match.
For one thing it can display your text messages, emails and Facebook updates, and can control the music on your phone via the wireless connection. It can also run select Google Apps, which makes it a tad more versatile than your Tag Heuer, don’t you think? You get 3 to 4 days use out of a charge and 2 weeks standby, oh and it can be detached from the wrist strap and used as a pendant or clip if that’s your thing. Priced at $104.58 (or £68.48 in the UK). And yes Marjorie, it does also tell the time.
If I have to tether it to my smartphone anyway, why bother having this. My phone is already there and does what this does and more without holding on to two things now.
Not sure how useful this may be except for the "cool factor" some may think they are getting.
I think it comes from the 'keep your phone in your pocket' genre of gadgets. It's supposed to make it easier to check your 'stuff'.

I meant to continue by saying Costco and Target carry watches at $20.
I love the idea of a smartphone. Cool tech as promised by boyhood TV shows!
