Soundstation Studio – create music on the web

Soundstation Studio is a new music making service on the web, which has some nice features. It’s Flash based, and supports the usual sample loop methodology of creating music. Open up the library and drag and drop loops onto the different tracks/channels and off you go.

The UI is nice and simple, and there’s a useful collection of effects included with the package, although you’ll need to pay money for more sophisticated loops with which to build your opus.

Once you’re done you can publish to the Web (i.e. YouTube) or download a finished .mp3 mix file. The one weird thing is the lack of any option to record material from the virtual live keyboard which you play alongside the loops. Strange. Worth a play, although I do still prefer MusicShake for sheer fun-ness.

If I make a song in Soundation Studio with the included loops, can I sell it commercially without asking Soundation for permission or sharing royalties? Yes, anything you create in Soundation is your production, the only exception is you cannot transfer, upload, share, give or sell any of the isolated or individual sound files. They are licensed to you to use in your productions but not to give away, upload or sell as individual loops or samples.
