Spoon – awesome virtual box lets you run sofware and games safely anywhere

Spoon is an awesome freeware virtualisation box for Windows which lets you run applications and games without having to install anything on the host computer. You need to download the Spoon Studio plugin first, but once that’s done you can then download and use any of the freely available apps from the site’s app library as you want.

Skype, Picasa, Thunderbird, uTorrent, web browsers (try out all the latest web browsers without having to install them first!), there’s a bunch of apps available to use. Plus games like the Halo Demo, Peggle, Cogs, Second Life and Farm Frenzy. The apps and games run almost as fast as on a native machine (although the graphics heavy games won’t run full screen) and you get the full experience without all the hassles installing and configuring. Crazy stuff!

Spoon uses proprietary app virtualization technology to allow streamed apps to execute instantly in an isolated environment on any Windows desktop. Unlike hardware virtualization solutions such as VMware and Virtual PC, which emulate the underlying hardware and therefore require an entire copy of the host operating system, Spoon app virtualization technology emulates operating system features required for execution. As a result, Spoon virtual apps have essentially the same performance characteristics as native executables.
