Ten years ago, we never would have guessed how closely tied we would be to our phones. Updating our social media outlets, listening to music, texting friends and family, making calls, setting schedules, playing games, and much, much more are only a fraction of the day. However, when we’re in a low-signal area, our smartphones may as well be a brick in our pockets.
Only a satellite phone can hope to have consistent service, but they are way too expensive if you’re not in constant and dire need of one. This is where the SPOT Connect could be useful. You’ll only need to download the app and pair your smartphone with the SPOT Connect through Bluetooth, and you’ll have access to a satellite communicator. From there, you can send short emails or texts (about 41 characters long unless it’s predefined, which would make it 120), update Twitter and Facebook, and even get roadside assistance with SPOT Assist. Obviously this isn’t going to come cheap. The SPOT Connect will cost you $170, and a year long subscription is an additional $100.
