There’s something totally visceral about music, the way your favorite tunes dig deep into the soul and make you literally ‘feel’ the beat. But of course it’s really just an audio experience most of the time, unless you’re standing 3 inches away from a big stack at the front of the stage, at which point your body becomes a little wobbly thing.
Well the SubPac M1 product is all about feeling the music in the same way, or more accurately feeling the bass line in your bones. The product works by ‘transferring low frequencies directly to your body’ to let you feel the low end as well as hear it. The unit is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery pack which lasts for around 8 hours and it weighs 1.9 lbs.
It’s not the first such gadget of course, the vibrating gamer seats have been doing it for ages, but we’re intrigued by the fact that you’re supposed to wear the M1 version (the S1 is a more conventional seat cushion – as above). We’re particularly wondering in what circumstances you’re expected to strap a bass woofer unit to your back…at your friend’s birthday party? Really?
Anyhoo, it’s an interesting idea and judging by the glowing testimonials, it seems to work as advertised. The first batch has sold out, so it’s now on pre-order at $299.00 until the end of the month. Delivery in December.
