Alternative energy farms are getting a lot of flack on the ground as they’re big and interrupt wildlife which is why we’re putting them in the ocean. Dutch engineers are putting a new spin on them by building solar islands that follow the sun, like a sun flower!
These new solar islands will be built starting later this year in Holland. They will contain over 73K panels which will be able to follow the sun, getting the most power out of it as the day goes on. They will use algorithms to follow the sun as it’s a got a pretty stable path.
This islands will also be able to move out of the way to stay safe during extreme weather so they will hopefully need less repairs and maintenance over time. This program is only starting with three islands but if they do have a low impact on the environment, as projected, then we could see more of their kind in the future.
