Surf Saver.

To round off search week – Surf Saver. Back in the day I was a heavy heavy Surf Saver addict. I’d save everything, every little web page I came across, complete with graphics, links and naff blinking buttons. And yes I could search for information at the drop of a hat, and locate trivia in every crevice. But then I realised that at the rate I was going I would very soon have all 3 billion pages of the Net stored on my hard disk, which would be silly. So reluctantly, like a reforming crack-head, I uninstalled it, never to return.

Nevertheless, it remains an incredibly useful piece of software if you do a lot of heavyweight Web research, and although IE’s .MHT file save format and the Google cache have made some of its functionality redundant, there are times when you’ll give thanks for the ability to locate obscure references on long forgotten web sites you saved to disk.
