Switchabit – write once, copy everywhere…but why…?

Switchabit is a new service which lets you deliver your communication to multiple sources automatically. Kind of like an online social network switchboard. So say you have a Blogger account and you want your posts to go to Twitter, Facebook and Flickr, just set it up here and every time you post something in Blogger Switchabit will automatically copy it to the networks you’ve selected.

Is it just me or is the web becoming just a little bit over self-absorbed with all this sharing and copying stuff? When I make a phone call, do I have an urge to copy the conversation to all my (2) friends too? When I send a letter [wassat? -Ed] to my Uncle Ted, should I photocopy it x 12 and deliver it to the rest of the family as well? So why this urge to rush around stuffing our content everywhere there’s a waiting hole?

I dunno, maybe I’m just a bit old fashioned, but I don’t really see the point in distributing my mental droppings all over the place like some incontinent pigeon. It’s bad enough that I inflict the pain on one audience without letting everyone else suffer too. Sheesh! Hmm…maybe it’s time to start asking some questions?

Like the “Cc:” function in email, switchAbit lets you write content once and publish to multiple services. (e.g. Send a tweet and switchAbit will route it Facebook and Jaiku). Control how and when switchAbit is activated by setting up “switchboards” and tags you create.
