Teambox is a new open source project team collaboration application which provides task lists, project chat, file upload, and project archives in one Twitter style interface. The choice of this simple UI was very clever, and works extremely well, and the feature set is very cool, although it looks as though it’s aimed at projects which have a fairly large team involved.
For many of us smaller project types, I’m thinking Skype, Pivotal Tracker and Campfire is pretty much all you need to get things done efficiently…oh and maybe Google Wave one day. But I could be wrong.
Anyway, as well as the free self-hosted open source version, there’s also a range of handy hosted plans starting at $12/month for up to 6 projects, 200 MB of storage and unlimited users. It’s a Rails app and definitely worth a look if you’re in the market for some cool team management smarts.
An open-source web-based project management tool. Share messages, tasks and wiki for each of your projects. More social. Multi-language.
It works well for small accounts, too. But if you're looking for quick real-time collaboration, try Talkerapp.com.
If you import the activity feed from Teambox or Pivotal, you can integrate tasks with real time chat :)
