Teen Discovers New Way To Clean Microplastics – project removes 87% of microplastics from water

Microplastics in the water supply is a big problem. Despite the material being tiny, tiny, the issue is quickly making it’s way up the food chain and endangering us all. An Irish teenager created a way to remove up to 87% of the microplastics from water.

The method uses a combination of substances as well as magnets that remove the plastics from the water. It’s most effective on fibers that are lost from laundry and works less well on polypropylene plastics.

This breakthrough can help lay the ground work for a larger scale operation to remove this products from the water. Obviously, this project was very small scale but kicking it up to industrial level is the next step. Hopefully this opens up a new way to fight pollution. Check out the video to see him talk about his project.
