The Anti-Sleep Pilot – a tired driver’s best friend

Anti Sleep Pilot-3

According to a report by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), 56,000 sleep related road crashes occur annually in the USA, which result in 40,000 injuries and over 1,500 fatalities. The Anti-Sleep Pilot was created by ASP Technology to help reduce those horrendous statistics and to keep tired drivers safe.

This Danish-designed device sits on the dashboard, mounted via an adhesive-backed magnetic base, monitors both the driver and driving conditions. The driver first must take a short test to assess his or her personal risk profile. The information’s then stored in the unit.

The Pilot calculates your fatigue level as you drive based on 26 different parameters, including your profile and a series of reactive tests, in which you must touch the device as soon as indicated. The longer it takes you to react, the more tired you are. When you’ve reached a certain threshold, the Pilot alerts you through light and sound signals that tell you that you need to take a break.

Introduced at CES 2010 in Las Vegas, this super handy device is currently only available in Denmark but the company hopes to make it available in the US later this year for around $250. For such a potentialy life-saving device, that’s a bargain.
