The Data Glove.

5DTDataGlove

The 5D Data Glove. Of absolutely no use whatsoever to anyone unless hooked up to a motion capture system, but still….there’s something fashionably chic about it, don’t you think? In a ‘not quite Michael Jackson’ way. USB or wireless Bluetooth versions available from just $995.00. Bargain!

The system interfaces with the computer via a USB cable. A Serial Port (RS 232 – platform independent) option is availible through the 5DT Data Glove Ultra Serial Interface Kit. It features 8-bit flexure resolution, extreme comfort, low drift and an open architecture. The 5DT Data Glove Ultra Wireless Kit interfaces with the computer via Bluetooth technology (up to 20m distance) for high speed connectivity for up to 8 hours on a single battery.

  • Minority report, anyone?

This type of hardware is always cool, but fails completely unless it’s backed up by some equally cool software.

I can imagine someone doing some serious 3D modelling (“sculpting” would sound better). Or imagine the level of l33tness one can achieve while sporting these babies during one’s ppt presentations :D

  • Actually Zecc what would be neat would be to use one of these things to craft a really cool digital ‘shadow puppet’ show using digital animation. It would be quite interesting to see what you could achieve using computing power and a glove on a bare white wall. ?

    • As far as I know 5DT supports its products with drivers for the most common 3D applications (Motion Builder, 3D Studio etc)
