The Expert – the most truthful thing you’ll watch this month [Video]

theexpert

We don’t often feature straight YouTube videos, but when we do, they’re worthwhile. If you’ve ever been in a meeting comprising suits and ‘experts’ – typically tech or engineers – you will recognize the truth in this spoof instantly. And painfully. We literally exploded with recognition here. Hilarious and wonderful.

But the one thing all the sneering YouTube commenters seem to miss is how easy it is to be on the ‘suit‘ side of the table. Sure managers, marketing and product people don’t understand the tech they’re supposed to be dealing with, but that isn’t their fault.

The problem is we tech types have failed to make tech understandable enough so that ‘ordinary’ people – i.e. the vast majority of human beings on this planet – can work out what’s what. It’s not that suits are stupid, it’s just that they are floundering in a sea of bad interfaces, awful user manuals, pitifully bad training and non-existent empathy.

Engineers, who we love by the way, are far too wrapped up in the beauty of the code to spend too much time trying to make it understandable for the common man. And that’s the sadness. The one good thing is when, eventually, someone actually manages to make the tech clear and easy to use, they earn billions. Step forward Mr Jobs.

Anyway, watch the video.
