Some good news from the world of plants. The Great Sundew, an endangered species native to parts of England, is getting a second chance in the wild as a new conservation effort has started up. Might be worth noting that despite it’s gentle name, these little guys are carnivorous.

The plant lives on the wetlands and peat bogs and with their loss, the poor plant has gone extinct in many parts of the country. The new effort will plant a small amount, just ten, and hope that with some protection they’ll be able to take root again. It is a prolific flower-er and sends tens of thousands of seeds out.

The plant is fairly alien looking with a topper covered by thin tentacles. When they sense a bug, it will fold over the insect, trapping it, and digest it for nutrients. Yummy! Bringing this plant back will help restore the wetlands to what they once were.
