Thumbkey – the touchscreen keyboard for your mobile phone

thumbkey

They’re marketing Thumbkey as the ‘ultimate’ keyboard for touchscreen PDAs and mobile phones which may be a little strong, but from the specs and video it does look impressive. The secret sauce seems to lie in a combination of predictive text, proximity sensing and a robust word recognition dictionary.

I haven’t had a chance to play with it yet, but it looks like a good contender to replace those static touchscreen keypads we all know and love. Ahem. Limited to Windows Mobile devices though, and priced at $25.00 (free demo version available to try first).

Due to its unique algorithms, ThumbKey is able to identify the intended keys through a combination of characteristics of the keystroke (size and position of the finger). The algorithm processes the typed letters and its disambiguation feature suggests the intended word and additional candidate words, conveniently displayed next to the keyboard.
