Titan M USB Cable – we test out the toughest USB cable in the world. And it’s tough! [Review – Editors Choice]

Ever had a USB cable fail on you? Annoying isn’t it? We’ve lost count of the number of cables with smashed tips or invisible breaks which have caused us grief over the years. So when we heard that a company was claiming to have the ‘toughest cable on earth’ we just had to test it out. Could this be the solution to our cable break woes?

The Titan M USB Cable comes in both standard microUSB and Apple Lightning (the iPhone version is called Titan: iPhone – duh). Both cables feature the same boastful claim, along with the classic marketing boast that it will be ‘the last cable you will ever need’. Strong words. And it comes with a full Lifetime Warranty. Check out our video below to see what we think.

First impressions
Even if you’re not sure about the toughness of the cable, you’re going to be impressed with the toughness of the packaging. We needed a sand-blaster, jack hammer and blunted four pairs of Titanium pincers to get ours open. These guys appear to live tough, all the time. That said, apart from the impervious blister pack, there’s not a lot to say about the pack. It looks neat.

In use
But you want to know about the cable right? Well we didn’t do any chain saw tests, or run over it with a car or any of the other stunts that they company does on its website –

Frankly we felt that they had that stuff covered. So we just looked at the bits which are the most vulnerable, the ends, and tried a few knot tests and stuff. Result? Yep, this is one hardcore cable. The ends look like their welded polycarbonate or something (if that’s possible) which means they are totally rigid, and the metal tips are equally tough. We spent a considerable time pushing, pulling, pressing and otherwise trying to crush the cable way beyond usual use cases. Nothing doing, it stood up to it without even a hint of damage.

We actually came away thinking that several generations of gadgets, and even cable formats (we’re looking at you ‘C’) will pass through your lives before this cable gives any signs of wear and tear. In fact by the end of our test spell, we started to worry about the device ports which would accept this cable. Knowing how fragile some of them are, we started wondering whether the sheer weight of the cable would risk your phone or tablet getting a microUSB hernia.

Can your USB cable do this, for instance? Yep, if you’re stuck out somewhere with no smartphone stand, why not use your friendly Terminator T2 cable as a backup holder? Scary indeed.

If you work in heavy duty construction, spend your days fighting foreign mercenaries in dark jungle terrain or otherwise have a career which involves jumping off cliffs carrying microfilm, then this is definitely the USB cable product you need. It’s seriously, ridiculously strong. Now of course if you take an industrial bolt cutter or angle grinder, then no contest, but we’re not really sure why you would bother with all that, unless you’re trying to get YouTube views. Final word – this is one product which lives up to its marketing. Recommended.

Price: Titan M USB Cable for Android – $25 (Apple version – $35)
