Tweephone lets you tweet from a rotary phone

DIY projects can be a good way to make a device that simplifies your life, and saves you money. However, not all projects are like this. Some things we make because it seems like fun, or just to say that we’ve made it. I’d say that this Tweephone would fall into the the later categories.

The Tweephone is an old rotary phone that allows you to compose and send tweets, simply by picking up the phone and dialing. I say simply, but it’s really much harder than using a keyboard. Just find the number associated with the letter you want, then stick your finger in and rotate it all the way. You may have to do that a couple of times, depending on the letter you want. Once you’ve composed your message, just hang up, and your message will be tweeted. The makers have provided instructions (in Russian, so you’ll need Google Translate to help out) and the source code, if you want to make this happen for yourself.
