UK Government want you to vote for laws – unique milestone in human history attained

Yourfreedom

So the new UK government has set up a site called Your Freedom asking for public votes on which laws to repeal and which to keep. It’s just about the most unreal thing you could ever imagine a government doing, as long as they deliver on the popular vote. There are a couple of problems of course.

  • We the people aren’t that bright are we? Currently in the top 5 of the ratings charts on the list to repeal unnecessary laws is ‘increase motorway speeds after 7pm’ which is clearly vital to civilisation.
  • There’s no way to quickly see which suggestions top the votes/rating chart, it’s only ratings right now.
  • The site seems to be groaning under the load.

Still it’s a noble exercise and an unbelievably bold attempt to move the antiquated, broken, discredited and inefficient art of government and politics into a new century. And let’s face it, anything is better than nothing when you’ve given up hope of any real change from any member of this sorry system.

We’re working to create a more open and less intrusive society. We want to restore Britain’s traditions of freedom and fairness, and free our society of unnecessary laws and regulations – both for individuals and businesses. This site gives you the chance to suggest how we can do this. Your ideas will inform government policy and some of your proposals could end up making it into bills we bring before Parliament to change the law.
