Um…the Nokia N95 has an accelerometer inside??

Nokian95accelerometer

Apparently the Nokia N95 has an accelerometer inside. You know, just like those fancy pants iPhone thingies. This is pretty freaky because it means that you’re soon going to see a bunch of Symbian type applications which use auto-rotate and stuff like that. If you’ve got an N95 download Moving Ball and try it out yourself. You have to ask why Nokia keeps doing this kind of thing. Remember the hidden mic in the N770 and the FM radio that we suddenly found lurking inside the N800 tablet? Weird huh? The demo video is here and watch out for an application called RotateMe to be released at the end of this month. Hah, dose krazy Finns…

Testing the accelerometer comes in the form of MovingBall, a software plug-in developed by Nokia. It does nothing else other than move the ball when you tilt the phone. I’m really surprised how responsive it is. It also knows when you shake the phone. A program that will take advantage of this technology is RotateMe 2.0 which should be coming out soon. Zach from Symbian in Motion expects RotateMe 2.0 at the end of November. It will add an auto-rotate feature ‘a la iPhone’ that will be compatible only with the Nokia N95.

  • I had noticed that photographs taken sideways were correctly rotated, but had thought it was merely a 90-degree sensitive switch…
