USB Network Server – print, FTP, NAS and BT server combo promises much file sharing love

Usbnetworkserver

It’s amazing what they can cram into a lump of plastic nowadays. This USB Network Server comes with one Ethernet and two USB ports and enough smarts to act as a full blown NAS, FTP, print and what we assume to be BitTorrent server all rolled into one. It’s multiuser compatible and also supports the sharing of card readers. Just about the only thing it won’t let you share is your coffee, but hey… $55.99.

Support Key-Recovery: Avoid the server to get into trouble since the misoperation # Multi-User permission setting # Share for USB HDD Box, USB Flash Drive, USB Printer, USB Card Readers or others USB devices # Easy setting, easy installation # 4 Blue LEDs Indicator (Power, System, USB 1, USB 2) # Support Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Vista, MAC OS and Linux…

  • How many usb devices can we share with this device?
Can I plug in a usb hub for example to share more devices?

    • I have one, and yes you can. It does everything as advertised NAS, print server, ftp, upnp media server, etc. I found impossible to setup an All-in One Lexmark X5100 as it does not detect it neither as printer or scanner, however I plugged in an usb HDD with a multicard reader, a Compaq IJ650 printer and 1 usb flash drive with a hub and everything is ok.
The only problem is the processor inside is quite slow, that is, if someone is transferring something to-from the device every other transfer slows down. A simple transfer consumes around 75% processor time as stated in the General Info tab of the device.
A simple benchmark (done with ATTO) shows a max of 700 KB/s read and 500 KB/s write.
Both USB are high powered, I suspect they can supply more than the 500mA specification when required.

Another detail, print jobs are flushed if no memmory device is attached to the device, I suspect the device uses it as RAM maybe because of it don't having enough internal RAM.

No manufacturer provided, no setup.exe everything configurable through web server.

However for 45USD on ebay it's worth it.

  • DOES IT COME WITH SETUP.EXE
    MANUFACTURE NAME

  • does it work with mac osx?

    • In italics at the bottom of the article> Mac OS and Linux

  • can we connect scanner to it?

  • Hi, I have this USB Network server device but I am not able to figure out how this can be setup on my MacBook Air. Can some one please guide me. I am just learning Mac os as this is my first MacBook, and I want to configure this device. Please help.
    Thanks in advance.
