Use freeware to encrypt your flash drive contents

Flash drives have to be one of my favorite products to come out in the last decade or so. Before they hit mainstream, we had to take files on CDs or the dreaded floppy disk. Now it takes no time to copy a few files onto a thumb drive and shove it into your pocket. The downside to these things is that they are easily lost. So what happens when you’ve stored sensitive information on a drive, and it falls out of your pocket in the coffee shop?

If you’re carrying around private information on your flash drive, you should really consider encrypting it. This means that anyone who finds it will have no chance of viewing the files contained within. If this sounds like something you think you should be doing, you might want to check out this guide on how to use TrueCrypt to encrypt the contents of your flash drive. It might take a few extra steps, but knowing that your data is safe is worth the hassle.
