Have you ever been riding in a car, or perhaps a train, and wondered just how fast you were going? It’s easy enough to find out while in a car, as you can simply look at the speedometer, or ask the driver. Well, if you want to find out in other situations, you can do so with the use of a jailbroken iPhone and some handy freeware.

There are two free apps that you can download to your phone which will provide this functionality. First, there is Speed for Maps, which overlays Google Maps with a small icon showing your current speed. The other is simply called Speedometer. This gives you a basic readout of your current speed. Unless your car just doesn’t have a working speedometer, these apps novelties at best, but can still be interesting to look at when traveling.
