Viamente Route Planner is an awesome online tool which lets you optimize a delivery route for multiple vehicles and destinations. Yep, just like the big boys can do. The app is based around some very clever algorithms and Google maps, and gives small companies a really valuable way to save costs, energy and make maximum use of their resources.

Set up is absolutely easy, just enter in the number of vehicles you have (the free version gives you up to four), set the destinations, load capacity, working time and end destination if it’s not a round trip. Press the optimize button and bingo, the most efficient route for you to download print, use and rejoice over. Everything is editable, there’s a waypoint list as well as graphical map and you can even import route and vehicle data from your own sources.

The application can also output GPS friendly data to make it easy for your delivery team to plug into existing technology. The service is in early launch phase at the moment, with 4 vehicles and 24 locations offered for free, and the final service will be offered on a pay as you go basis.

This is one of the most stunning web apps I’ve seen for a long time, both in terms of execution and business potential. If small companies can become more efficient, they can save serious amounts of money and what’s more improve the environment through optimal use of energy. An absolute win-win-win. Awesome.
