The View-Master was the best toy ever back in the day. With that little red device you could see snapshots of the world beyond your backyard. It was wonderful. Which is why the news that the retro View-Master is getting 21st century update is so exciting.

The View-Master (original) was a toy that you held up to your eyes and clicked through slides with. These slides sometimes told stories but mostly they were photos of other places. You could switch out the slides for new experiences. Now, instead of relying on slides, you (or your kids) will be able to use your mobile phones in place of the slides.

Where the original let you look at a picture one at a time, the new version will immerse you inside of the picture giving you a 360 degree view of the place. Sort of like Google Maps Street View with an educational side bar. The app and experiences will also work with Google Cardboard. The View-Master will be available in the Fall of this year and retail for $29.99.
