Viki – enjoy free movies, music and TV from around the world

It’s pretty easy to forget that there’s a huge world of entertainment out there, which doesn’t have ties to the conventional channels. Yes, we’re talking about movies, television and music which is produced In Other Countries!

Oh but surely it’s rubbish, right? Well actually, some of it is quite good, and some is even outstanding. If you’ve ever had a desire to check it out directly, now’s your chance, using the new Viki.com site. The site features a great collection of material which is curated and translated by the users.

It’s not exclusively foreign language, there is some US and other English speaking stuff on there, but mostly it tends to be Korean, Indonesian or Bollywood material, with some old black and white Hollywood thrown in for good measure. The site serves over 2 billion video streams, all subtitled into different languages by the viewers. They call it ‘fun in any language’, and we see what they mean.

There’s a nice genre search which lets you hunt out your fave type of entertainment. We’ve got to say that some of the subtitling is a little…er…spotty if you know what we mean, but it’s still a great way to take a look at what the rest of the world is watching and enjoying. And then there’s the music videos.

Unfortunately, as you can see from the above, their embedding is broken, which makes it hard to share the content, but hey, it could just be a bug or two. Anyway we admit to a soft spot for K-Pop music videos, with their awesome retro video production values, so take a look at their music content too, there’s a good amount of choice. As for the rest, who could resist titles like Love Story 2050 and Master of Epic? Definitely worth a look if you’re hunting for something different.
