Virtual Pong – table tennis gets a 21st century makeover

virtualpong

Ping pong has been around for ever. In fact it was probably first played back in the 1800s by bored British army officers, and while there have been changes (the ball used to be a golf ball or champagne cork) the game remains much the same. But now it’s been moved strictly into the new century.

Virtual Pong is a ‘futuristic’ game which uses light instead of a ball, and the players wave wands rather than paddles. The end result is a game which looks more like a random Bladerunner sport than a living room pasttime.

The ‘ball’ of light bounces off walls and ceiling, and the object is of course to keep returning the ball in order to win the point. The first to 11 wins the game, and it can be played against the device itself or with gamers playing each other. The game runs off batteries and costs $59.99.
